WebWeaver® School: Web-based learning and school management

WebWeaver® School is a comprehensive online platform both for learning and for school management, which provides pivotal services such as file storage and e-mailing. The whole application is centrally hosted and supported. Therefore schools and their governing bodies are able to minimize their local IT and save money.

Online tools make cooperation easier and help reducing the paper flow. This is why WebWeaver® School provides protected online working spaces for groups and classes as well as for the whole school. The use of WebWeaver® School requires only an Internet browser – installed on a desktop PC, on a tablet or a smartphone – and a connection to the Internet.

Facilitating school management and lesson planning

Each working space offers online tools especially developed for school management and lesson planning:

  • The e-mail service for all members of the school
  • The protected file storage for all platform members, groups, classes and the whole school
  • Various web forms and online booking tools, e.g. for rooms and devices
  • Many other tools for communication and cooperation such as calendars, wikis, task management and messages

The benefit of the tools is obvious: school matters become transparent for any person involved and all the necessary information is always available online – at any time, at any place and on any device.

Supporting learning

Complete learning management system

The authoring tool Courselets enables teachers to create interactive learning content, both short tests and more extensive, comprehensive online courses. The courses can be used on the platform, exported towards other WebWeaver® platforms, to other learning management systems such as Moodle (via SCORM 1.2) or even can be used offline.

Online tools

A broad spectrum of online tools and media is available for both collaborative work and individual learning:

  • Students keep records on their learning progress in personal learning logs;
  • Teachers edit learning plans for their classes, so that learning topics and learning steps are always available online. Teachers can supervise the learning process of their students;
  • Tools enhancing creativity and collaboration such as blogs, website creator and wikis;
  • The users can directly search for digital media, learning materials and schoolbooks and integrate them into the virtual libraries in their working spaces (e.g. EQUELLA, Learning Resource Exchange).

Mobile learning and “bring your own device” (BYOD)

Mobile learning and the integration of private devices are important challenges for schools. WebWeaver® School is optimised for mobile use and includes standard interfaces such as WebDAV, IMAP and iCal. Native apps for iOS und Android facilitate the mobile use of core functions such as file storage, messages and forums.

Cost-efficient cloud services

WebWeaver® School provides pivotal services such as e-mail, file storage and a website file manager from a centrally managed server. Consequently, schools and their governing bodies are able to save costs for local IT.

wtkedu.de: School platform of the district of Wetterau

Roland Fertig, teacher at a German vocational school, Friedberg

“Our headmaster has introduced the platform as central means of communication. From the beginning, any information on school matters has been made available solely on the platform. The most popular features are those supporting communication among teachers and students: e-mailing, file storage and polls.”

*Klaus Tratzki, teacher at a German vocational school, Butzbach*
“Those who most benefit from the WebWeaver® School are the students involved in advanced vocational training in enterprises. They spent most of their time at their respective working places. Thus, the platform allows them to communicate with their teachers and other students.”

schulbistum.de: School platform in the diocese of Münster

Dr. Thomas Schwerdt, teacher at a grammar school for girls, Münster

“Apparently, the platform is logically structured and is easy to follow. This is why also less media-savvy colleagues make extensive use of it.”
